Minimalism in the Mariña Lucense

Some places seem to have been created specifically to be photographed. They serve no particular function, carry no special meaning, and have no official recognition. It’s difficult to explain their charm or visual appeal, especially since, in many cases, they’re abandoned, but it’s undeniable that they hold a powerful kind of magnetism.

That’s exactly the case with this small house in the Mariña Lucense. It stands alone in the middle of a small field, just a few meters from the coast. Reaching it isn’t straightforward, you have to leave the main road and follow a narrow path to get there. There are very few houses nearby, which adds to the deep feeling of isolation.

The first time I saw it, I was driving, and without even realizing it, I couldn’t take my eyes off it for quite a while. Thankfully, the road was straight and there was very little traffic. It’s surprising how a small abandoned house, with nothing particularly special about it, could hold my attention so intensely. From that moment, I knew I had to photograph it, it became an unquestionable goal.

A few weeks ago, I passed through the area again, and something told me it was the perfect time to capture the image. I was thrilled to get close to the house, to feel its solitude, its setting, the quiet power it exudes. Despite its remote and somewhat awkward location, it struck me as a perfect place to live, and I couldn’t help but wonder what life would be like there. The atmosphere is full of personality, and I hope the photo managed to capture even a trace of it. If so, that’s enough to make me happy.
